The “Teach 1000 Teachers” programme was initiated by IIT Bombay in 2009 under the project, “Empowerment of Students/Teachers,” sponsored by NMEICT (MHRD.) The main aim of this programme is to work with Engineering Colleges in the country to enhance the teaching skills of faculty colleagues in core Engineering and Science subjects. The “Teach 1000 Teachers” uses an ICT enabled process involving both synchronous and asynchronous mode to actually reach out and engage a large number of teachers, and through them, a much larger number of students. Under the programme, IIT Bombay conducts two-week ISTE workshops during the vacation period in summer and winter. Live lectures are given by IIT faculty. The participating teachers attend at a remote centre close to their own college, and also attend tutorial and lab sessions conducted in the same centre. The lecture transmission and live interaction takes place through distance mode using the AVIEW technology and the internet, at selected remote centres across the country. Faculty coordinators are appointed at each remote center, to handle the technology infrastructure and other operational logistics. Additionally, for each workshop, there is a workshop faculty coordinator for that subject who will help in the conduct of labs and tutorials at that center. All the lectures and tutorial sessions are recorded. The final edited audio-visual contents, along with other course material are released under Open Source. These contents can be freely used later by all teachers and students.

In 2013, this programme was scaled further, to train up to 10,000 teachers at a time, using 338 established Remote Centers across India. IIT Kharagpur is our partner Institution in the second phase. Together, we have a mandate to train 1, 50,000 teachers over the next three years.

The 'Train 10,000 Teachers' (T10kT) uses the AVIEW framework developed by Amrita University, which provides an interactive social environment through the internet, for e-learning, and communicating and interacting with people at different places. It is used to deliver and transmit live lectures given by faculty at IIT, to all RCs.

National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT) is a landmark initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to address all the education and learning related needs of students, teachers and lifelong learners. In Indian scenario where there is a vast disparity of educational facilities available in various regions across the country, the Mission envisages to bridge the gap by providing just- in- time quality educational resources andteachers24×7tolearnersirrespectiveof their social, economic and educational status. The National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT) was launched on February 3, 2009 at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme to leverage the potential of ICT in teaching and learning process.

The essence of Human Resource Development is education, which plays a significant and remedial role in balancing the socio-economic fabric of the Country. Since citizens of India are its most valuable resource, our billion-strong nation needs the nurture and care in the form of basic education to achieve a better quality of life. This warrants an all-round development of our citizens, which can be achieved by building strong foundations in education. In pursuance of this mission, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) was created on September 26, 1985, through the 174th amendment to the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961.

Currently, the MHRD works through two departments:

Department of School Education & Literacy
    Department of Higher Education

While the Department of School Education & Literacy is responsible for development of school education and literacy in the country, the Department of Higher Education takes care of what is one of the largest Higher Education systems of the world, just after the United States and China.

The Dept. of SE & L has its eyes set on the “universalisation of education” and making better citizens out of our young brigade. For this, various new schemes and initiatives are taken up regularly and recently, those schemes and initiatives have also started paying dividends in the form of growing enrolment in schools.

The Dept. of HE, on the other hand, is engaged in bringing world class opportunities of higher education and research to the country so that Indian students are not finding lacking when facing an international platform. For this, the Government has launched joint ventures and signed MoUs to help the Indian student benefit from the world opinion.

Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering and Technology was established in 1997 with a vision and great expectations. The faculty and other resource persons have been chosen with great care since they constitute the very means of successfully realizing the avowed objectives. Our aim is to provide an integrated learning environment to enable students to grow towards their full potential and meet the high expectations of the industry and the society.

GRIET is proud that it has been nominatedas one of the Remote centres by MHRD-NMEICT in the year 2012. The most number of our Faculty had benefited directly or indirectly through these workshops and it is very glorious remarks of our college.

"Lifelong learning is a requirement for every faculty. At GRIET we upgrade the technical and pedagogical skills of our faculty by encouraging them to attend training programs conducted by IIT Bombay under National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT) initiated by MHRD, Govt. of India, New Delhi. From the inception of the remote center in the year 2012 to till date, 884 faculty members participated in various technical training programs and 469 faculty members participated in pedagogy programs that include FDP101x: Foundation Program in ICT for Education, FDP201x : Pedagogy for Online and Blended Teaching Learning Process and FDP301x: Mentoring Educators in Educational Technology."
